Bushland Maternity Shoot – Bethany and Steve

For me, the joy of being a photographer isn’t just about the lights, the posing, the hair and makeup. It’s also being invited to share in somebody’s special moment and capture those feelings forever. It’s a privilege I don’t take for granted and I’m so happy to photograph every one of my clients.

Beth is a fellow photographer with her own studio, Emotif Photography, and I’ve had the privilege of knowing her for over five years. We’ve shot numerous weddings together and spent many hours driving to venues and sharing stories. So you can imagine, then, how honoured I felt to be asked to photograph her maternity photoshoot.

We know that so often the wait for a baby doesn’t begin at 9 months before they are due to arrive – it sometimes begins many, many years earlier. So this maternity photoshoot is the result of a lot of waiting and dreaming.

Beth and her husband Steve chose a bushland location right near their home in Berwick, Melbourne and we headed down there to catch the afternoon light as it faded into evening. They both love nature and really wanted to celebrate the outdoors and this pretty spectacular place they live in. Of course their much-loved dog Bella had to be part of the action and she loved rolling around in the grass and getting up to mischief.

Beth had ordered outfits specifically for this shoot and I love how the colours stand out against the natural backdrop. They both have such a natural ease in front of the camera, and it was great just to talk about their dreams for their family.

I’m really looking forward to meeting Beth and Steve’s little guy or girl and watch them embark on the next part of their journey together as parents.
