How to Find the Perfect Yarra Valley Wedding Venue

The Yarra Valley is a popular wedding destination, and for good reason. Surrounded by verdant green hills and stunning scenery, and blessed with quality wineries, it’s the perfect location to tie the knot.

Only an hour or so drive from Melbourne, it’s easy for guests to get to, whether coming from the city or flying in. And with so many hotels, BnBs and boutique homes available, there are plenty of accommodation options to suit a range of budgets.

For guests making a weekend of it, there are lots of things to do in the Yarra Valley, including scenic walks, delicious cafes and day spas. And of course, wineries. So many wineries.

Most venues provide space for both the ceremony and the reception on the same site, minimising travel for you and your guests and giving you one less thing to organise.

Finding a Yarra Valley wedding venue

With so many wedding venues in the Yarra Valley, it won’t take long to find a venue to suit your theme and aesthetic, from rustic country-chic barns to neo-modern wineries. Most venues will be able to cater for small gatherings of your nearest and dearest, to an extensive guest list of all your acquaintances.

You’ll be spoilt for choice in the Yarra Valley, but that doesn’t mean every venue will match your requirements. Before booking in your wedding venue, it pays to consider a few essential elements that will ensure you find the perfect location.

Weather

As much as you’d love to have a perfectly calm, warm day for your wedding, the reality is that we can’t control the weather. Whether it’s a spring rain shower or a stinking hot summer day, the weather can wreak havoc with your best-laid plans.

Ensure that your venue has a contingency in place for inclement weather – an undercover venue for the ceremony in case it rains, or a shady spot for very hot days.

Accommodation

While there are a variety of accommodation options across the Yarra Valley, you may want to choose a venue with onsite accommodation, especially for you and the wedding party. This way you’ll be able to get ready on the day without having to worry about transport to the venue (and being late for your own wedding), and will be able to head back to your suite as soon as the band have stopped playing and farewells been said.

Travel

While some of your guests may decide to spend the weekend in the Yarra Valley and soak up everything there is on offer, others may choose to head back to the city once the party is over. Consider arranging a charter bus to pick your guests up and drop them back. You can have a central pickup location, or a few, depending on where your guests are coming from. Booking a hotel in the city may also be more affordable and easier than in the Yarra Valley during peak season, so consider that option for out-of-town guests.

While there are so many great venues in the Yarra Valley, a stand out favourite of myself and many of my clients is the gorgeous Stones of the Yarra Valley.

Stones of the Yarra Valley

Rustic charm abounds at this stunning venue located in the Yarra Valley. This gorgeous property is blessed with stunning, uninterrupted views of the valley below along with perfectly manicured lawns and centuries-old oak trees.

Stones of the Yarra Valley boasts two fabulous venues to host your reception. The Barn features high ceilings and stunning light, and accommodates up to 200 guests. The exposed brickwork of The Stables lends a French-country vibe; this intimate venue accommodates up to 63 guests.

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing many Yarra Valley weddings and I’ve discovered so much about this area along the way. If you’re considering a wedding in the Yarra Valley, feel free to get in touch with me before you book.
